To Ashland Merchants:

Welcome to the fourteenth annual Summer Reading Program for Ashland's elementary schoolchildren!

Boy reading

In past years, this program was a complete success in large part due to the wonderful prizes donated by all of you.  For those shop owners, merchants and organizations new to our outreach, here’s how this program works.

Books

Children finishing grades K-5 are motivated to read as many books as they can during the summer to earn prizes.  They keep their reading records over the summer, and turn them in to program volunteers in September.  The volunteers give the children one or more coupons for prizes from participating merchant stores for their reading achievements.  Students redeem their coupons with the shop owner, merchant or organization awarding the prize.

Friends of the Ashland Public Library and SRP Kickoff

Tuesday June 28, 2011 1:30-3:30pm was the kickoff for the Ashland Public Library Summer Reading Program at Megunko Park. This was in conjunction with the Ashland Public Library summer reading program kick-off in the library at 2:00pm.

Welcome to the 2011 Ashland Summer Reading Program!

All Graduating Students in Grades K-5 are Invited to Participate

The program is simple. If you read (or someone reads to you -- which includes books on tape) the number of books or the number of hours listed in the left columns of the Prize and Local Merchant form, (on page 3 of the full 2011 flyer) you will earn the terrific prize listed in the column on the right (plus all of the prizes listed above that one)! Remember: there are 71 nights in the summer -- so if you read (or someone reads to you) three books or chapters or for 30 minutes each night before bed, you'll earn every prize on this list.

Starting This Year, Track Your Reading On-line!

If you are interested in tracking your reading/time online, please go to this link(www.readsinma.org/index.asp?lib=ashland). This easy-to-use on-line system will allow you to track your summer reading progress whether you are at home in Ashland, at summer camp or on vacation.  It is just as easy as tracking on paper, so try it out!!
